Seeding rate effects on forage productivity and nutritive value of sorghum

چکیده

In Ethiopia, the use of traditional and improved grain sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] variety as green forage crop is limited mainly by large stalk thickness low nutritive values. An experiment was conducted to explore if biomass accumulation values could be managed seeding rates. Two dual-purpose varieties (Melkam Chelenko), one local (Masugi) each representing early late maturity groups were sown for 2 yr at three locations in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with replications involving five rates (12.5, 25, 50, 75, 100 kg ha?1). The results showed significant effects year, location, variety, rate, interactions on different variables. These main contributed more less total variation observed Increasing rate significantly decreased thickness, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid (ADF), lignin (ADL), but increased in-vitro organic matter digestibility (IVOMD) concentration up 6.6% no effect dry accumulation. Among late-maturing varieties, whereas early-maturing greater crude protein (CP) IVOMD NDF, ADF, ADL concentrations across locations. Thus, increasing above recommended 12.5 ha?1 help improve potential Ethiopia.

Influence of Different Seeding Dates on Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) Forage Yield and Nutritive Value

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) is used as medicinal plant in many Asian countries and has been reported to have forage quality similar to alfalfa. Fenugreek is an annual crop and may have the potential to diversify forage production systems in the central High Plains. This study evaluated forage dry matter (DM) production and the nutritive value of three fenugreek cultivars as influen...

Effects of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers on nutritive value of safflower forage and silage

This experiment was conducted to determine the effects of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers on nutritive value of safflower forage and silage by in situ and in vitro methods. The safflower forage was harvested at flowering stage, chopped to 3-5 cm particles and then ensiled in the laboratory silos for 60 days. The experimental treatments included: 1. Unfertilized forage (control), 2. Phosphor...
